Yesterday was about 100º in the shade. I should've painted in the morning, but because I was looking after my folks, I couldn't.   I opted to paint this around 5pm, the light was soft but sweat was rolling down my spine!

 Ieri faceva 40º all'ombra.  Avrei dovuto dipingere di mattina ma stavo accudendo i miei e non potevo.  Ho deciso di dipingere di pomeriggio, intorno alle 17, la luce era morbida e diffusa ma il sudore mi correva lungo la schiena.

I flew into Anaheim last sunday to help my folks out with my mom's back surgery.  Jet lag was easy to get over with so having brought my paints and canvas boards with me, I prepared a small still-life on my parent's terrace.  Had to work quickly as the morning sun came over the building.  Tomorrow I'll start earlier.

 Sono volato ad Anaheim domenica scorsa per aiutare i miei genitori con il intervento di mia madre.  Il fuso orario non mi ha disturbato piu' di tanto e siccome ho portato con me i miei dipinti e cartoni telati, mi sono preparata una natura morta nel terrazzo dei miei.  Ho dovuto lavorare velocemente perche' il sole sorgeva dietro l'edificio.  Domani inizierio' piu' presto.

I was waiting for the shipment of canvas boards to arrive.  I didn't have any these days, so I took some old 'ugly' paintings and simply painted over them.  These two have a certain texture to them that I like.

Stavo aspettando che arrivasse un ordine di cartoni telati.  Non avevo niente su cui dipingere in questi giorni e così ho preso alcuni dipinti 'brutti' e gli ho dipinto sopra.  Questi due hanno un certa texture che mi piace.

I've been painting alot of red things lately: roses, tomatoes. I think I need a break.  I spotted this garlic this morning as I prepared my coffee.  It's whiteness and candor called out to me!

Ultimamente sto dipingendo molte cose rosse. fiori, pomodori.  Ho bisogno di un pausa.  Ho visto questo aglio stamattina mentre preparavo il caffè.  Il suo biancore mi ha chiamato!

There are these beautiful little roses growing in someone's garden here in Porchiano.  I clipped the ones on the outside of the fence, don't think they mind, don't think they know!

Ci sono queste bellissime roselline rosa che crescono nel giardino di qualcuno intorno a Porchiano.  Ho reciso alcune, quelle che crescevano fuori la recinzione, non credo che gli dia fastidio, non credo che lo sanno!

After the brief thunderstorm yesterday afternoon, I went outside to cut some roses from my neighbor's. The white roses are just huge, must be all the water that has come down lately.

Dopo un piccolo temporale ieri pomeriggio, sono uscita per tagliare alcune rose dal mio vicino.  Quelle bianche sono semplicemente enorme, dev'essere tutta quella acqua che hanno ricevuto ultimamente.

I've been eating alot of aubergine lately, they're more or less in season.  I remembered a recipe of 'Baba Ghanouj', a typical middle eastern appetizer.  I'm eating it  almost every evening.

Sto mangiando tante melanzane ultimamente, sono piu o meno in stagione.  Mi sono ricordata la ricetta di 'Baba Ghanouj', un antipasto medio orientale.  Gli sto mangiando quasi tutte le sere.
