Sentiero di Palliccio - The Palliccio Trail

 I interviewed Marcello and Federica the other day at their home and nature trail in Palliccio, just a few kilometers from Porchiano del Monte. A wonderful example of private property opened to the public.


Tell me a little bit about your Palliccio Trail.
The 2.5 km path is dedicated to a friend of ours, Paolo Vannutelli, who passed away in 2006.  A group of friends wanted to remember him in some way so we decided to dedicate this trail to him.  

How did you start?
I had some land which belonged to my family and which had not been cultivated in ages.  When we decided to create this path, the land was completely overrun by nature. I thought that the best thing to do was to follow the various animal paths that already existed and simply widened them.  A group of friends helped us out. 

There is an observation point on this circular path where you can sit, listen to and often see different types of animals such as: porcupines, owls, badgers, squirrels, fresh water crabs and more.

Looking into the history of Palliccio, I discovered that this trail was part of the old road that connected Porchiano to Attigliano, in the Tiber valley.  

What would you like the trail to become? 
It would be great to enlarge and connect it to farmhouses and towns so people can walk from Porchiano to Attigliano if they'd like.  

We would also love for more people to use this trail.  Local schools have come to visit with their classes and we're very happy about that.  

The Sentiero di Palliccio is visitable all year around and organizes around 4 events such as full moon walks in the summer & botanical walks with a guide.
The trail is located on the Strada Provinciale between Porchiano del Monte and Attigliano, just follow the sign post on the side of the road.

*Ho intervistato Marcello e Federica l'altro giorno a casa loro e accanto al Sentiero di Palliccio, a pochi chilometri da Porchiano del Monte. E' un meraviglioso esempio di un sentiero privato aperto al pubblico. 
Raccontami del sentiero. 
Il sentiero è dedicato ad un nostro amico, Paolo Vannutelli, scomparso nel 2006. Un gruppo di amici ha voluto ricordarlo in qualche modo, così abbiamo deciso di dedicare questo percorso a lui. 

 Come avete iniziato? 
Avevo un terreno abbandonato che apparteneva alla mia famiglia e che non era stato coltivato da forse 30 anni. Quando abbiamo deciso di creare questo percorso, il terreno era completamente invaso dalla natura. Ho pensato che la cosa migliore da fare era quella di seguire i vari percorsi di animali che esistevano già e di allargarli. Un gruppo di amici ci ha aiutato. 

 C'è un punto di osservazione su questo percorso circolare dove è possibile sedersi, ascoltare e spesso vedere diversi tipi di animali come: istrici, gufi, tassi, scoiattoli, granchi d'acqua dolce e di più. 

 Guardando nella storia di Palliccio, ho scoperto che questo percorso era parte della vecchia strada che collegava Porchiano di Attigliano, nella valle del Tevere. 

 Cosa ti piacerebbe il sentiero per diventare? 
Sarebbe bello ingrandirlo e collegarlo a fattorie ed altri borghi così la gente può camminare da Porchiano a Attigliano se vuole. 

 Vorremmo anche che più persone lo usasse. Le scuole locali sono venuti a visitare con le loro classi e siamo molto felici di questo. 

 Il Sentiero di Palliccio è visitabile tutto l'anno e organizza circa 4 eventi come la passeggiate a luna piena in estate e passeggiate botaniche con guida. 
Il sentiero si trova sulla Strada Provinciale tra Porchiano del Monte e Attigliano, basta seguire il cartello sul lato della strada.
